Rising Demand for Multigenerational Living Sparks Housing Innovation

These new residential development projects accommodate heightened demand for multigenerational living

Demand for multigenerational living solutions is on the rise in the United States, driven by changing societal dynamics and economic concerns post-pandemic. A recent Harris Poll for Bloomberg revealed that approximately 45% of young Americans aged 18 to 29 are living with their parents—the highest percentage since the 1940s. 

This burgeoning trend has sparked interest in housing designs that cater to multiple generations, and a number of new residential developments across the country are responding with replicable solutions. The Prado community in Las Vegas offers one- or two-level homes, as well as detached casitas, with ample privacy and spaces for independent living, Forbes reports.

“When designing modern luxury homes for generational living, it’s very important to create spaces for getting together and privacy,” says Chris Beucler, Blue Heron’s Nexus Division president. “Prado, located in an iconic neighborhood of Vegas estates, excels at that. Every home in Prado is on half-acre lots with incredible generational suites with private bedroom, bathroom and sitting area, and detached casitas for even more space and privacy, making it a fantastic place for expanding families.”
