Tiburon, Calif., is considering a proposal to require all new single-family homes be equipped with solar panels. Current homes would be exempt from the mandate even if they undergo remodeling.
The town only has between 5 and 10 new houses built each year, however, and most of those are tear-downs of existing buildings. With the high price of new homes in the area, solar panels have become standard equipment anyway. Town officials say such a requirement is likely to become state law in the future.
