Debate over net metering for rooftop PVs moves to Colorado
State's largest utility calling for reduction in 10.5-cent/kwh credit
A major credit for rooftop solar energy systems known as "net metering" has sparked debate between utility companies, solar companies, and solar households in Colorado. Xcel Energy, the state's largest utility, has said the net-metering credit — currently equal to about 10.5 cents for each kilowatt-hour a residential solar system puts on the grid — is too high and called for a reduction in the credit since non-solar customers were carrying the extra cost. Similar controversies are taking place in Arizona and Hawaii.
