The Hottest Markets For Vacation Homes

The top spots for vacation homes are located primarily in the eastern half of the United States

July 15, 2016

The hottest vacation home market in the country is the city of McGaheysville, Va. A city that offers a plethora of water parks in the summer and great skiing options in the winter. Along with McCall, Idaho, McGaheysville is one of the top hot-spot places that has added vacation properties and experienced a rapidly increasing number of search interest form last year, Trulia reports.

Other top spots include Hinckley, Minn., Ketchikan, Alaska, Nancy Ky., and Saint George Island, Fla. Basing the list solely on the raw volume of search interest shows that areas in and around Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Florida are garnering the most attention. These two areas comprise 9 out of the top 20 spots for vacation area home searches. The most searched was Cherry Grove beach in the county of Horry, S.C.

However, whenever there is a top, there is also a bottom. Based on search interest and trend of proportion of seasonal visits, the Pagosa Springs area in Colorado came out at the very bottom, followed by South Padre Island in Texas, and Saint Petersburg in Florida.
