Last month, I attended NAHB’s midyear meeting in Miami and had the pleasure of sitting in on a presentation by Daniel Swift, president and CEO of Des Moines-based architecture group BSB Design.
Los Angeles homes facing new reflective roof requirement
City looking to cut down on urban heat island effect
Installation of cool roofs will be required at homes in Los Angeles for new or replacement roof projects under changes made to the city's building code. The mandate will enable residential roofs to reflect sunlight and reduce the amount of heat they absorb to cut down on the urban heat island effect. This can also help roofs lessen temperatures indoors and help homeowners save on energy consumption.
