The median lot sizes of new homes have decreased since the late 1990s, and over the same period, the median size of new homes have grown by almost 25 percent.
According to Zillow Real Estate Research, the ratio of how much of a lot is covered by the home has increased steadily during the recession, “and has remained at historically high levels during the recovery.”
An easy explanation is that more builders are building townhomes and condominiums, which feature little to no yard and increased density.
