For-rent multifamily completions in buildings of 50 or more units reached a high of 142,000 in 2015, a 284 percent increase since 2011. The increases were greatest in the Midwest, South, and West, while the Northeast experienced a sharp decline between 2014 and 2015. However, during the same period of time the homeownership rate dropped to a record low.
