By cutting up to 30 percent of a building’s cooling costs and rejecting up to 99 percent of the UV rays that can shine through a house, 3M says its Sun Control Window Films can work well for builders who want to make a home energy efficient. By blocking out the sun, the films also reduce interior glare and hot spots and decrease fading in home furnishings. The product is available in three series: Prestige Series is clear tinted and allows more light while still blocking 60 percent of the heat; Ceramic Series is moderately tinted and allows 50 percent of light to shine through; and Night Vision Series allows just 35 percent of visible light to provide daytime privacy.
