Smart-home company SmartThings has developed technology that allows a home to learn a homeowner’s behavior, adjust lights according to their preferences, announce the weather as coffee is brewing, and let the homeowners control their surroundings through a swipe on their smartphone. Wall Street Journal columnist Christopher Mims explains why he thinks all this complexity may be a hindrance, not a help.
