Working from home is steadily becoming more widespread in the U.S., and a new ranking shows which cities are best for remote work.
Roughly 5.2 percent of American employees work from home full-time, though in the top-ranked work-from-home city of Denver, the share is 9.6 percent. The city with the highest share of remote workers in SmartAsset's study was fourth-ranked Scottsdale, Ariz., 12.5 percent. One of the key takeaways of the research is that Millennial cities tended to be best for remote work: three of the biggest Millennial hubs identified by SmartAsset, Denver, Seattle, and Charlotte, N.C., made the top 10.
The benefits of working from home are manifold — but especially helpful when it comes to your mental state and finances. After all, a commute can be stressful and pricey if you’re guzzling gas while sitting in traffic. What’s more, eating at home is usually cheaper than the standard takeout fare you might find around the office. And even working remotely in general — from your local coffee shop, for instance — can leave you with more time to accomplish your tasks without wasting time in transit to work.
