With more than $4.4 billion in total residential revenue and 17,095 closings in 2010, PulteGroup tops Professional Builder’s annual Housing Giants ranking of the nation’s largest home-building companies. D.R. Horton had $3.9 billion in residential revenue and 18,983 closings in 2010 to grab the number-two spot on the Housing Giants list. Rounding out the top five are NVR, Lennar, and KB Home.

Habitat for Humanity reaches 400,000-home milestone

Housing starts up 3.9 percent in November to 555,000 annual units
Privately-owned housing starts in November were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 555,000 — 3.9 percent above the revised October estimate, according to the Commerce Dept. The single-family market fared even better, rising 6.9 percent last month.
Study: KB Home, Pulte lead public builders in sustainable practices
America’s 10 largest publicly traded home builders have started to improve their policies and practices relating to the environment and resources, but much progress remains to be achieved, according to a new study by Calvert Investments, a sustainable and responsible investment firm. KB Home and Pulte ranked at the top of Calvert’s list, while Meritage Homes, Toll Brothers, and Standard Pacific all improved against Calvert’s previous ranking. DR Horton and Ryland Group lost ground.
