Coalition pushes for update to New York State’s building code

Bringing state codes up to 2015 ICC standards would simplify interstate development.

A coalition of industry groups is pushing New York State to update its building code to bring it in line with the 2015 version of the International Code Council’s model building codes. Doing so would align New York’s code with codes in Vermont and Massachusetts, simplifying things for housing developers who work across state lines or for people from out of state who are building vacation homes in New York. The proposed code update does not include requirements for sprinkler systems in single-family homes.
