San Francisco was recently listed as the healthiest U.S. city overall, scoring best in the food and green space categories. Seattle was a close second, outranking San Francisco in the fitness category.

The two cities that ranked lowest in the new healthy city list from WalletHub were both in Texas -- Laredo at 173, and Brownsville at 174. However, both cities were ranked first and third best in medical visit affordability. San Francisco's lowest rank, 30, was for the health care category. Points are assessed based on health care costs, affordability, and residents' weight.

To determine which areas prioritize residents’ well-being, WalletHub compared more than 170 of the most populated U.S. cities across 40 key indicators of good health. Our data set ranges from cost of doctor visit to fruit and vegetable consumption to fitness clubs per capita. Read on for our findings, further insight from a panel of experts and a full description of our methodology.
