At the end of the first quarter of 2019, Dallas-Fort Worth maintained its spot as America’s top homebuilding market.
According to National Mortgage News the Dallas-Fort Worth area saw an annualized total of 34,500 units. Houston came in second, at just over 30,000 units. Dallas-Fort Worth’s first quarter total was up just 2.75 percent over 2018 levels, and growth is expected to remain relatively flat in the coming year.
"I think 2019 starts will be flat or down by a percent or two — mostly due to weather, the mortgage rate spike in 2018 and overall affordability issues," said Metrostudy's Paige Shipp. "Interestingly, if you look at the other markets — mostly outside Texas — they are also experiencing a slowdown, many of which are due to the same reasons as D-FW.”
