Elon Musk is betting on solar panel technology’s bright future as it grows cheaper and more accessible. Tesla is driving further into the solar power game with its new solar roofs that replace an old roof rather than retrofit onto an existing one. Musk predicts that Tesla will shortly sell 1,000 roofs a week, then expand to over 10,000 a week.

Tesla Inc. TSLA, +1.80%  Chief Executive Elon Musk on Friday unveiled the electric-car company’s new solar-paneled roofs and said he expects to be fitting more than 1,000 a week within short order.

Typical pricing: Around $35,000, the company said.

It’s another bold promise from the controversial technology entrepreneur, whose company stunned skeptics on Wall Street last week by breaking into profit in the third quarter.
