Though Millennials still trail Gen Xers and Baby Boomers in terms of the total number of households they head, the younger generation will soon surpass the older ones once they graduate college and move out on their own.
Pew Research found a few facts about Millennial households, as of 2016. At 5.3 million, the largest share of households living in poverty were headed by Millennials, and Millennials were the generation with the largest number of renters, at 18.4 million.
Only 35 percent of Millennials, defined as adults between 18 and 35, own their homes, a lower share than other generations at the same age. In 1982, 41 percent of Baby Boomers owned a home, and in 1999, the homeownership rate of Gen Xers was 40 percent.
