Homes sold two days faster in September 2018 than they did in September 2017, with a median 32 days on market. Demand is still outstripping supply, though the gap may be narrowing.
But where were properties selling the fastest? Based on survey data by the National Association of Realtors, South Dakota properties sold at the quickest rate, with a median 20 days on the market, followed by Idaho, Washington, and Rhode Island (21 days); Indiana (22 days); Kansas, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Utah (23 days); Colorado, Nevada, Nebraska, Maine, and Michigan (24 days).
Based on the REALTORS® Seller Traffic Index, home selling conditions were “weak” during July, August, and September 2018 compared to one year ago in the District of Columbia and in 28 states including California, Oregon, Colorado, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida.
