Experts have a new term for the type of places that incorporate accessible urban amenities into more relaxed suburban settings.
“Surban,” as coined by real estate consultant John Burns, will be one of the big buzzwords of 2017. Both Millennials and Baby Boomers will seek surban neighborhoods, which feature affordable homes built within walking distance of restaurants, shops, and other conveniences.
The OC Register reports that surban areas are popping up across the nation, particularly in Anaheim, Irvine, and other cities in Southern California.
While the migration of young adults to suburban areas from cities isn’t new, the coming wave is expected to be different. ... The surge should happen over the next 10 years or so. … Millennials are attracted to an urban lifestyle more than previous generations at their age, researchers say, and are likely to seek out metropolitan features even as they eventually migrate en masse to the suburbs.
