Picture yourself in the “typical” American home: A comfortable house with a big yard and a dog lying at your feet. But, according to MarketWatch, that’s not so typical anymore.

Today, more and more families—especially Millennial buyers—prefer their homes to have an extra room or a playroom rather than a large backyard.

And it isn’t just backyards that are feeling the squeeze; living rooms and dining rooms are often being repurposed as playrooms, too. While backyards still matter for many buyers, often just a small yard will do.
