With homelife being redefined, anything that reduces upkeep and brings enduring beauty is a welcome relief. And Millennials, who now are the largest generation in American, want an active lifestyle with homes that feature low-maintenance spaces in vibrant communities. With these changes, it comes as no surprise that there has been a movement towards steel siding.

Trending products are those that are not only beautiful but need little upkeep and look as good as the day they were installed. The increased popularity of high-quality, fade resistant and low-maintenance exteriors has helped architects express their unique relationship with steel siding when creating an iconic design.

Steel metal siding isn’t new; it’s been around for almost 100 years. But thanks to a host of innovative improvements, there’s been a resurgence of interest in this surprisingly beautiful, durable and environmentally friendly alternative to fiber cement, vinyl and wood.

The Look of Wood, Without the Maintenance

When choosing exterior cladding, make sure you look at maintenance. Today you can find wood-look steel siding, such as Quality Edge® Vesta Steel Siding®. It’s so artfully made to mimic natural wood that it opens the door to creating looks where wood might otherwise rot or fade. Maintenance-free steel siding is an investment you can count on, replacing the need to caulk or repaint every few years. Plus, steel siding offers a solution that won’t melt, crack, rot or collect mold like other siding materials.

Fade-Resistant Steel Siding

A siding material that offers fade protection is best to ensure your exterior design will last. For example, Vesta utilizes a Kynar® PVDF paint system that is superior at reflecting the hot, harmful rays of the sun to prevent fading, and forms a thick film barrier that provides resistance against wear and chips.

Anticorrosive Zinc Barrier

The term galvanization was first used to describe the process of applying a coating of zinc to a steel surface. This technique has the long history of providing corrosion protection, with simultaneously being developed in France as well as in England in 1837. The method employed then was to manually dip metal sheets into a hot bath of molten zinc. Within two years, galvanized metal became popular for construction applications for its resistance against corrosion. Today Vesta siding is protected by CarbonTech90™, a galvanization process that applies an anticorrosive zinc barrier to an in-demand siding alternative.

Homeowners are looking to create an exterior design that reflects their personality while providing an investment they can count on. Reclaiming or taking ownership of our home’s exterior, and how it will impact our lifestyle for decades to come, enhances feelings of satisfaction for homeowners and the builders delivering dream homes.
