Nonprofit affordable housing developer Community Housing Opportunities Corp. (CHOC) will have the official grand opening for Monarch Apartment Homes, in Palm Springs, Calif., in late February, Multi-Housing News reports.
Comprised of 12 two-story buildings with one-, two-, and three-bedroom floor plans, the community offers a total of 60 housing units as well as a variety of common-area amenities and parking. The $36 million project caters to low-income families and individuals earning between 30% and 60% of the area median income and is the first affordable housing property to open in Palm Springs during the last 14 years, according to CHOC.
Designed with sustainability as a key component, Monarch Apartment Homes features indoor and outdoor electric systems, efficient windows and appliances, a double insulation system including framing with blown insulation and rigid insulation, reflective surfaces and cool roofs that reflect about 76 percent of the sunray away from the building for added sustainability.
