After spending two years and about $50,000 on a home that was never finished, Tulsa, Okla., residents Jovanna and CJ Lour now have a finished new home, according to 2News Oklahoma.
The couple had spent months waiting for the builder they were working with to complete their home, but were then told he had gone bankrupt and their home would remain unfinished. The Lours, who had just welcomed a son, were staying with friends until they could move in to their new house. The experience has taken a financial toll, and CJ says the couple had to take money out of their retirement just to stay afloat.
But then local builder Bob Hawkins stepped in, and although he had to work within tight margins to complete the homes, he quickly figured out how to salvage the properties.
Bob Hawkins, a local builder who owns Jaroh Custom Homes, has been a home builder for the last forty years. He was brought in through Oklahoma Mortgage Group and learned the bankruptcy impacted six local families.
Hawkins said he knew he needed to try to lend a hand.
"I've got a big heart, I love to help people," said Hawkins. "And that's basically what I did."
In just four months, he [had finished] all six homes, with half moving in by the end of December and the other half by the end of January.
