Even homeowners in the midwest, a region not known for its abundant sunshine, can tap into solar power.
Redfin and Sun Number examined the largest midwestern cities and rated and ranked their rooftop solar potential. Columbus, Ohio, Chicago, Madison, Wis., Dayton, Ohio, and Cincinnati led the list.
Solar panels have been found to be a good investment for homeowners. Panels reduce energy costs and utility bills, and they can improve the value of a home. Redfin also found which markets have the highest premium for solar. In Cleveland, for instance, homes without solar panels are listed for $121,000, but homes with panels can sell for $213,000.
