The Bestselling Wellness Features Among Homebuyers Today

Which wellness features are health-conscious homebuyers prioritizing post-pandemic?

It’s been three years since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and Americans are still more health-conscious than ever before. Whether that means prioritizing mental health or physical well-being, a number of wellness factors are popping up in the world of interior design. 

In John Burns Research & Consulting’s January 2023 Healthy Homes survey, 95% of respondents said they now believe a home affects its occupants’ health, while nearly three-quarters (73%) say they will be taking health into consideration when choosing their next home. For some, that means renovating bathrooms with steam showers and ambient lighting, and for others, wellness design translates to designated spaces for fitness or meditation, Forbes reports.

This was the top wellness priority by far, and it’s showing up across the market. “Over the last few years, we have seen clients wanting to create sanctuary spaces where they can tune out and unwind,” shared San Antonio-based interior designer Shea Pumarejo in a Facebook designers’ group. “We are designing a lot of spa-like bathrooms with ambient lighting, aromatherapy, chromotherapy, soaker tubs and steam showers where homeowners can practice self-care right at home.”
