Founder and chairman of the Austin-based builder Thomas B. Buffington passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 8th, 2019.
Buffington started his own building company, Buffington Homes, in 1987, and joined three national builders in 1996 to form The Fortress Group for acquiring and consolidating local and regional builders. Buffington retired in 1999, and in 2001 founded Buffington Capital Holdings to acquire and develop properties for central Texas master-planned communities. In 2007, Buffington began building homes again by re-launching Buffington Homes, and creating Buffington Homes of Arkansas along with partners, Mike Lamberth and Clay Carlton, per Legacy.com.
He served on the board of two banks and on the board of KLRU and was also a member of Austin Country Club. Tom was born in Newport, Arkansas to Nora and Dewey Buffington on January 3rd, 1945. He was a graduate of Sewanee Military Academy and studied real estate and insurance at The University of Arkansas.
