Ventresca has initiated a tree preservation program at Gwyn Oaks, a new community of 14 single-family luxury homes in Lower Gwynedd, Pa. The program will identify, preserve and relocate existing specimen plant material during construction. The 16-acre site was formerly the home of Ambler Nursery and the several unique trees and shrubs still there will be incorporated into the new community.
Don Ventresca, president of Ventresca Properties, worked with tree specialists to develop a comprehensive program to preserve the foliage and please buyers. "It was important to preserve, and if necessary relocate the rare and beautiful plants that make this former nursery so unique," says Ventresca.
Some of the plants at the site include a collection of 14 to 16-foot ruby horse chestnut trees, a variation of the traditional chestnut tree that bears scarlet flowers. Other specimens include the relatively rare and fragrant sweetshrub, two tall gingko trees and some huge old magnolias.
"This site would lose its unique beauty if all the fine plants were destroyed," says Ventresca. "The preservation program makes sense -- everyone benefits."
