Economists’ Forecasts Vary on How Strong Housing Will Be This Year

Though most are optimistic, some are more bullish than others

According to CBS Money Watch, most economists agree that the U.S. housing market is continuing to rebound, but vary widely in how strong they think the rebound will be.

Among the more optimistic observers is Andres Carvacho-Burgos of MoodysEconomy.com, who expects existing-home sales to jump 20 percent this year.

“The accuracy of Carvacho-Burgos’ prediction depends on whether the job market continues to strengthen and if gas prices, which have bottomed after reaching record lows, will remain in check,” writes Jonathan Berr of CBS Money Watch.
