The Best Cities For Diversity And Economic Mobility

Those looking to get a taste of the good life should move to Aurora—either the one in Colorado or the one in Illinois.

SmartAsset ranked the best cities for living the American Dream, which the site defined as diversity and intergenerational economic mobility, with homeownership rates, home values, and employment rates factored in.

Aurora, Ill., and West Valley City, Utah, tied for first, followed by Midland, Texas, Aurora, Colo., and Rochester, Minn. Texas had 12 cities in the top 25.

In an ironic twist, Washington, D.C. was last in our overall American Dream index. Its diversity and mobility scores weren’t enough to stand out and its unemployment rate was higher than the average. Further, the homeownership rate landed under 40%.
