The Wall Street Journal reports that affluent buyers prefer Tropical Modern, a contemporary aesthetic that combines clean lines, cool whites and beiges, and exotic woods and stones found in island homes.
Buyers are spending millions of dollars for homes with just the right Tropical Modern look. Buyers and designers say the style is timeless, so homes won’t need to be updated in 20 years.
Agents say luxury buyers are demanding modern homes with an island vibe and forgoing more traditional Mediterranean-style homes. In recent years, tropical-modern homes have been selling at a premium of as much as 30% compared with other styles.
