New Ohio building code will be enforced beginning Jan. 1
Ohio's new residential building code goes into effect on Jan. 1. The new state code will update 2006’s code. A few of the more significant changes in the code include:
· 50 percent of fixed lighting must be energy efficient.
· A weather-resistant barrier such as a house wrap is now required under exterior siding.
· Carbon monoxide detectors are required outside the bedrooms of all houses with gas appliances or with an attached garage.
· Horizontal rebar is now required in addition to vertical bars for poured concrete foundation walls.
