New Jersey considers grants for microhomes for low-income residents
The New Jersey Senate is considering a law to create grants to build microhouses for low-income residents. The proposed three-year “Tiny Home Pilot Program” would set aside $5 million for housing developments whose single-family or apartment homes measure no more than 300 sf of floor space. The bill’s sponsor said the one-room dwellings, which typically cost a few thousand dollars to construct, could provide housing for homeless citizens and provide relief to the state’s housing shortage.
