California water efficiency regulations may discourage home improvements

Four-year-old Senate bill requires water-efficient fixtures for additions and remodels

Chino Hills, Calif., residents who live in pre-1994 homes and apartments may have to replace their plumbing fixtures if they undertake a home improvement project, even if their project doesn’t involve plumbing, according to this article. Beginning Jan. 1, 2014, residents must install water-efficient toilets, faucets, and shower heads when undertaking a home addition or remodel to comply with Senate Bill 407, adopted four years ago.
