City looking to cut down on urban heat island effect

Installation of cool roofs will be required at homes in Los Angeles for new or replacement roof projects under changes made to the city's building code. The mandate will enable residential roofs to reflect sunlight and reduce the amount of heat they absorb to cut down on the urban heat island effect. This can also help roofs lessen temperatures indoors and help homeowners save on energy consumption.
