Many Louisiana homeowners impacted by floods have no flood insurance
Unprecedented rains that flooded parts of Louisiana and Florida caused at least 11 deaths and damaged an estimated 40,000 homes. Most homeowners in areas where a federal disaster has been declared do not have flood insurance.
FEMA said up to $33,000 will be allotted for those affected by the storm, but most payments are more likely to be between $9,000 and $10,000. FEMA grants will only be available in areas where flood insurance isn’t required.
