Suburban enclaves said to be losing favor in some regions

Suburban communities, even wealthy ones, such as New Canaan, Conn., are not as popular as they once were.

New Canaan, a picturesque New England town an hour north of New York City, has a glut of properties on the market. Many formerly desirable homes stay on the market much longer than in recent years, as more buyers prefer an urban setting, and more companies are moving to cities or setting up shop there.
