New Smart Roof Technologies Could Have an Impact on Climate Change
Recent innovation in smart roof technologies could have an impact on reducing the effects of climate change. For example, United Environment and Energy has developed a “bio-based thermochromic material that can selectively reflect and absorb solar heat.” The product is produced by coating asphalt shingles with a waste cooking oil substance that features an ingredient that makes it change color when it’s hot.
Researchers in Portugal created smart ceramic tiles that use a material similar to that found in smart windows. It allows infrared light to pass through, but blocks it after the temperature goes above 120-degrees F.
