Massachusetts State Board Resists Calls For Mandated Electric Car Hookups

Developers and home builders say customers don’t want electric vehicles or the extra costs associated with the lines

Environmental advocates and many state legislators in Massachusetts want new homes and commercial buildings to be equipped with the electrical lines needed for electric vehicle chargers. So far, the Board of Building Regulations and Standards has resisted making this feature mandatory. Developers and home builders say customers don’t want electric vehicles or the extra costs associated with the lines. The board recently chose not to take any action on a proposal that would have required new homes to have one space wired for an electric vehicle.
