Construction and design professionals are increasing their AI usage. As the technology ramps up, residential design and construction professionals from across the industry are implementing AI into everyday processes.

In fact, a recent survey from home design and remodeling platform Houzz found that 41% of firms now use AI for common business tasks, which is up by 7 percentage points from last year. Further, nearly all pros expect AI to transform the industry within the next five years, despite their concerns over the inaccuracy and unreliability of AI-generated content.

AI adoption is growing for both design and construction professionals

In addition to the 41% of pros saying they’re adopting AI into their daily processes, 83% of professionals say they’re familiar with AI in general, up from just 69% one year ago. Only 7% say they’re entirely unfamiliar with AI.

More construction and design professionals also say their awareness for AI tools designed specifically for their industry is growing. Of those surveyed, 75% now say they’re aware of tools designed for their industry, which is up by 16 percentage points from 2025.

Which sectors are experiencing the most AI adoption?

Of those surveyed, 52% of construction firms now use AI for daily business tasks, up 20 percentage points from 2025. An additional 34% say they are exploring AI solutions. For design firms, adoption rates are slightly lower at 39%. However, this is still up by 8 percentage points from 2025, and about 31% say they’re exploring AI solutions.

For construction firms, 64% say they’re using AI for sales and marketing purposes, and 61% say they’re using it for design and planning. Additionally, 59% say they use AI for project and client management and 52% say they’re using it for administrative purposes. Meanwhile, most design firms are using AI for planning and design work. That’s true for 68% of surveyed firms, while 67% are using AI for administrative tasks.

Concerns over AI are also growing

While AI adoption is growing, so are concerns about its reliability and accuracy. In 2025, 33% expressed concerns over AI growth, compared with 37% in 2026. Still, 97% of design and construction pros believe AI will continue to have a strong impact on the industry.
