Wages for Residential Building Pros Stagnate in March
Residential building workers' wage growth slowed in March. According to the National Association of Home Builders’ Eye On Housing blog, the average hourly wage for residential building workers rose by 4.5% year-over-year to $38.76. This growth rate continues to decline from the 9.3% peak recorded in June 2024.
Even so, construction workers are continuing to see high wages compared with other industries. For instance, hourly wages for residential construction workers are 10.2% higher than the manufacturing sector’s $35.17 hourly wage, and 24% higher than the warehousing industry’s $31.25 hourly wage.
The recent slowdown reflects an easing of pandemic-related labor shortages and a softening labor demand in the construction sector. In March, the construction labor market saw a decline in job openings as employers slowed hiring plans amid ongoing economic uncertainty. Read more
