The construction industry is growing, with 96,000 new trades jobs added in 2025. With demand for skilled construction workers increasing, Astrak, a supplier of undercarriage and wear parts for heavy machinery, analyzed the largest U.S. cities to determine which ones offer the best opportunities for construction workers.

With 8.4% of its workforce employed in the construction industry, Phoenix takes the top spot as the best city for construction employees. Part of the reason is due to Phoenix’s growing housing market. In Phoenix, there are currently 21.4 new housing units authorized per 1,000 existing homes. Additionally, the median construction wage in Phoenix is relatively stable at $55,438.

Raleigh, N.C., ranked second, with 8.4% of its workforce also in the construction industry. Additionally, Raleigh tops the nation in housing growth with 28.8 new units per 1,000 existing homes. Austin, Texas, follows closely behind, with 7.7% of its workforce in the industry. Austin also reported 28.6 new housing units per 1,000 existing homes, the second highest after Raleigh.

Calum Mair, Commercial Director at Astrak U.S., commented on the findings:

“Construction is in a healthy place right now. Cities like Phoenix, Raleigh, and Austin are seeing steady growth, with plenty of work and good pay on offer. For skilled tradespeople, it is a great time to be in the industry – there is demand, stability, and room to build a proper career.
