Cool Products From Show Village 2021

Like so many events in 2020-21, Pro Builder’s annual Show Village at the International Builders’ Show went virtual, with renderings of the three idea homes available for immersive online tours. But without the support of the program’s valued partners, Show Village 2021 would be just an empty cul-de-sac waiting to be developed. The difference this year was that our partners donated CAD files instead of actual products. Even so, the products featured in this year’s Show Village homes are showcased by our virtual host, Allison, at several points along the online tours. Come explore at pbshowvillage.com.

Whirlpool brands appliances

Whirlpool, KitchenAid, and JennAir products are found in the kitchen and laundry room in all three of this year’s Show Village homes, showcasing a range of innovative, energy-efficient options for builders. The JennAir line in the Thoughtful Home includes the manufacturer’s 30-inch built-in refrigerator column (shown), which can be customized to fit any space, has Wi-Fi connectivity, offers three zones of cooling, and can be controlled remotely or using voice commands. Mitsubishi Electric HVAC

Both the New New Home and the Healthy + Clean Home feature ducted mini-split HVAC systems from Mitsubishi Electric, offering builders and remodelers the option to mount HVAC units in the attic or to hide them in the ceiling, beneath the floor, or concealed behind a bulkhead. The system, which is suitable for Passive House designs, is available as a single-zone or multi-zone configuration. New New Home and Healthy + Clean Home partner

Trane HVAC

Trane’s HVAC system in the Thoughtful Home delivers a healthier, more efficient, cleaner, and more comfortable indoor environment, the company says. The whole-home variable-speed system includes a FreshEffects Energy Recovery Ventilator, humidity-control devices, and a CleanEffects Air Cleaner—the first air cleaner to earn asthma and allergy-friendly certification from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, according to Trane. The system can be personalized for homeowners’ specific needs in their particular climate. Thoughtful Home partner

DaVinci Roofscapes composite roofing

DaVinci’s durable, low-maintenance composite slate and shake roofs showcase the versatility of the manufacturer’s products. In the New New Home, the Bellaforté Shake (shown) roof’s staggered edges, color variations, and dramatic shadows contribute to creating a truly realistic shake look. The Bellaforté Shake offers a lifetime warranty, streamlined installation, and is available in eight standard color blends, as well as 49 colors for a custom blend. DuPont brands moisture management

DuPont provided a variety of products for the Thoughtful Home, including window flashing, Froth-Pak foam insulation from the manufacturer’s Great Stuff product line, and DrainVent Rainscreen from its Tyvek brand (shown). DrainVent is an innovative drainage mat that prevents the rot, cracking, and peeling that moisture can cause in exterior wall systems. It’s suitable for use with a variety of materials, including brick, wood siding, fiber-cement siding, metal-panel systems, and cedar shakes and shingles. Thoughtful Home partner

Tamlyn moisture management

The New New Home features multiple Tamlyn products, including interior and exterior trim and TamlynWrap drainable housewrap. Using patented technology, TamlynWrap is an omni-directional housewrap that combines a high-performance water resistive barrier with a unique drainage pattern. According to Tamlyn, the product can remove 100 times more bulk water from a wall than standard housewraps, and the wrap’s 1.5 mm noncompressible spacers bonded to the high-performance housewrap create a gap that enables water to drain from the wall twice as fast as other wraps. Western Window Systems windows and doors

Sliding doors, hinged doors, awning and fixed windows, and a bifold door by Western Windows Systems are showcased in the New New Home and fulfill the design promise of indoor-outdoor living. The bifold door connecting the dining area to the outdoors is a climate-ready product with a design pressure rating of 50 and the option of laminated solar-glare control or winter performance glass. The door has a 0.30 U-value for low-E, argon-filled, dual-pane glass, offers insular technology, and is NFRC-tested and Title 24-compliant. New New Home partner

Titebond sealants and adhesives

Titebond’s high-performance sealants, adhesives, and Titebond III Ultimate Wood Glue are showcased in all three Show Village homes with a variety of materials in different applications for siding, windows and doors, roofing, and specialty purposes. The adhesives are suitable for the installation of subfloors, finished floors, drywall, a range of heavy-duty uses, landscape pavers, large-panel–type materials, and more. Moen faucets and fixtures

Moen’s touchless faucets, rain showers, and handheld showers in the Healthy + Clean Home and the Thoughtful Home demonstrate the ease of use of these products as well as their role in healthy living. Touchless faucets help to reduce the spread of germs throughout the house, and the U by Moen Smart Faucet (shown) in the Thoughtful Home’s kitchen can be activated by voice command, a wave of the hand, or by using the handle. In-O-Vate Technologies dryer products

In-O-Vate manufactures several products for dryers that ensure a professional installation and enable these appliances to operate more efficiently. The Dryerbox (shown), which allows the dryer to be flush to the wall without crushing the hose, helps the dryer perform at peak efficiency by eliminating transition hose kinks. The DryerJack product, a code-compliant solution for venting a dryer through the roof, has a curved damper for peak efficiency and easy cleaning. Thoughtful Home partner 

Nisus termite treatments

Bora-Care from Nisus is an EPA-registered borate-based primary termite treatment that replaces soil termiticide. Applied directly to wood, concrete, and around foundation penetrations by your pest company during the dried-in phase of construction, Bora-Care (shown) creates a termite barrier by eliminating wood as a termite food source and can earn builders points in several green building programs. Nisus’ Bora-Care with Mold-Care goes a step further to kill existing mold and inhibit the future growth of mold and wood-decay fungi. Healthy + Clean Home partner 

Watergen drinking water system

Encouraging healthy habits, such as drinking plenty of fresh water, is an important element of the Thoughtful Home. Watergen’s innovative, environmentally friendly system creates fresh, safe drinking water from the humidity in the air. Clean, fresh water is always available from the water cooler in the exercise room in the Thoughtful Home, providing homeowners with peace of mind knowing that they will continue to have access to water free of contaminants. California Closets storage and organization

California Closets, which aims to provide custom-designed storage options and accessories to suit any closet space, need, or budget, showcases multiple storage solutions in the Thoughtful Home. In the family entrance, the space is customized for an easy transition into the home and includes a bench seat with drawers to hide outside footwear, scarves, or hats; hooks to hang jackets, backpacks, and umbrellas; and overhead hidden storage for helmets, extra towels, or bulk items such as paper towels. Versatex PVC trim and cladding

Versatex provided durable, paintable, maintenance-free PVC products, including trim boards and column wraps, for the Healthy + Clean Home. In addition, the home’s porch ceiling is clad in the manufacturer’s Canvas Series, a woodgrain PVC exterior ceiling product that delivers the rich look of hardwood with the maintenance-free convenience of PVC. Georgia-Pacific Building Products weather barrier system

Georgia-Pacific’s ForceField Weather Barrier System delivers a superior level of protection against air and water intrusion, the manufacturer says. Drying in your build starts with ForceField Panels, consisting of structural sheathing and an enhanced overlay that allows you to skip the step of applying housewrap. Then builders can complete the system with high-performance accessories to create a continuous air- and water-resistive barrier that stands strong against the elements. Healthy + Clean Home partner

Deckorators decking products

Deckorators’ decking, railing, and lighting systems can be seen on the rear elevation of the Thoughtful Home. Deckorators' Voyage composite decking provides 34% or more surface traction than other leading brands and weighs 35% less than traditional composites and about the same as PVC, according to the manufacturer, while providing the industry’s best strength-to-weight ratio. Made with a patented mineral-based composite technology, Voyage decking is strong, lightweight, and provides low thermal movement, the company says. Thoughtful Home partner

Savaria elevators

The Vuelift octagonal elevator from Savaria offers an attractive mobility solution for the multigenerational household in the Thoughtful Home. Savaria elevators can be installed in the middle of the room, through the floor, attached to a mezzanine, or centered in a switch-back staircase, the company says. Elevators are available with a capacity of up to 950 lbs in UV-resistant glass or clear acrylic, with customizable frame colors to complement any interior design. Thoughtful Home partner

Kichler Lighting interior and exterior light fixtures

Kichler Lighting is showcased throughout the Thoughtful Home, including both interior and exterior lighting. For example, in the dining room, you can see the Armand 42.75-inch, 12-Light Linear Chandelier (shown), which features a mix of black and bronze finishes, with touches of faux black leather wrapped around bronze candle sleeves. This simple, elegant chandelier works well with a variety of interior styles, including soft contemporary, mid-century, glam, and refined industrial, the company says. Thoughtful Home partner

Cultured Stone stone veneer

Stone accents from Cultured Stone can be seen on the exterior of the Thoughtful Home and in the lower-level family room, where the company showcases its Pro-Fit Modera Ledgestone. Stone pieces in the Modera Ledgestone line are grouped in modular components for fast, easy installation. The 3D inlays create a sleek, futuristic look that modernizes any design, while the creamy, earthen color palettes bring understated softness to an otherwise dramatic look. Thoughtful Home partner 

Broan-NuTone indoor air quality systems

Innovative indoor air-quality products from Broan-NuTone can be seen in the New New Home and the Healthy + Clean Home. The SurfaceShield Ventilation Fan combines antimicrobial light technology with Broan-NuTone’s powerful ventilation for an effective one-two punch against bacteria, mold, and fungi. SurfaceShield can be used continuously to fight microbes and is safe for people and pets. The 110 CFM ventilation fan removes moisture and reduces the risk of mold and mildew growth. Air King ventilation systems

Air King America’s ventilation system adds to the superior indoor air quality in the Thoughtful Home. For example, the manufacturer’s Energy Star-certified Eco Humidity Sensing Exhaust fans include an energy-efficient DC motor that maintains CFM ratings across multiple static pressures and is suitable for continuous operation.
