11 Aging-In-Place Features That Add Value to Any Bathroom
Homeowners are opting to stay in their homes for longer periods of time, and because of this, aging-friendly products and design choices have become more necessary. By considering universal features, home builders and designers can create bathrooms that are accessible to people of all ages and abilities.
In a recent blog post, home remodeling and design platform Houzz rounded up aging-friendly design features for the bathroom that are practical not just for older homeowners, but for a wide range of households. These include: built-in shower benches, easy-to-maintain porcelain wall and floor tile, curbless shower entries, and taller bathroom vanities, among other design choices.
The standard vanity height is 31½ inches (not including your countertop). This isn’t high enough for some homeowners. Raising the cabinet height to 34½ inches (this will reach standard kitchen counter height, including a 1½ inch countertop) can prevent you from having to hunch over as you’re washing up.
