4 Memory Points That Clients Will Never Forget

These unforgettable details help make a house a home, inspiring conversation and pride.

When recalling some of the new homes you’ve visited or toured lately, certain special details are likely etched in your mind. These high-impact design elements—or memory points—create an emotional connection to the home, becoming defining moments that stay with you. Their uniqueness and strategic use ensures they don’t compete for attention while at the same time providing pleasant surprises and preventing the floor plan from becoming an afterthought.

The following examples from our design team present homes that will be remembered as “the one with the indoor-outdoor glass wall” or “the one with the bourbon room that looked like an English library." Such carefully orchestrated experiences can separate homes from simply well-designed plans to ones that are truly distinct, desirable, and certainly unforgettable.

The Saguaro

This Phoenix home redefines contemporary living, where indoor-outdoor harmony and meticulously considered details come together to create a lasting impression on homeowners and guests.

A welcoming interior courtyard leads to the elegant entrance, creating the first of many memorable transitions. Inside, the great room makes a bold impression, anchored by a dramatic floor-to-ceiling fireplace (above) that acts as both focal point and gathering space. It flows into a gourmet kitchen, with a dining area and island peninsula for casual mornings and curated entertaining.

The grand suite offers a sense of retreat, featuring a walk-in closet and spa-inspired bath designed for relaxation. A dedicated office (above) provides flexibility for work, leisure, or extended living needs. Expansive windows and multi-slide glass doors invite abundant natural light while strengthening the connection to the outdoors.

Through layering of luxurious finishes and purposeful spatial organization, the home delivers both functionality and tranquility, creating an intentional, memorable experience.

Floor Plan Highlights

A. A welcoming interior courtyard guides guests to the home’s elegant entrance and enhances natural light and flow

B. An expansive great room anchored by a striking floor-to-ceiling fireplace, seamlessly connects to gourmet kitchen and outdoor living areas

C. A thoughtfully placed serving counter links the interior courtyard to the main living spaces through sliding doors and pass-through moments

D. A private, detached office accessed from the courtyard combines a quiet, secluded workspace with dramatic high ceilings and tall glazing

E. The grand suite serves as a true retreat, complete with a spacious walk-in closet and spa-inspired bathroom

The Limelight at Painted Prairie

This narrow, alley-loaded home delivers drama with carefully crafted memory points that elevate everyday living, eliciting moments of surprise and impact.

The experience begins at the street, where a bold front elevation combines a rich color palette with asymmetrical materials and window patterns, creating strong curb appeal.

Inside, an elegant open-rail stair anchors the entry, immediately drawing the eye upward. Cascading windows alongside the stair flood the space with natural light and establish a rhythmic, vertical focal point that transforms circulation into an arrival moment.

Another memorable moment occurs in the living room, where a vibrant mural (above) energizes and expands the compact space. More than decoration, it adds personality and movement, leaving a lasting impression.

Floor Plan Highlights

A. Open-rail stair at entry

B. Open living area with mural

C. Expanding living/office space

D. Overlook to entry

E. Privatized primary bedroom looks over outdoor living

Rookwood

True to the Tudor and Shingle-style influences of Rookwood, this model seeks to maximize every inch of the early 20th-century-inspired floor plan.

The bourbon tasting room (above) emerged as an inspired mid-build pivot to utilize the void beneath the main stairwell to accommodate the client’s love of entertaining.

By capturing this space adjacent to the study, there is now a seamless transition between the two areas.

It may be a compact, but it's also a high-impact memory point that anchors the pub-and-library wing and proves that the most functional contemporary floor plans still have room for a bit of historic flair and mystique.

Floor Plan Highlights

A. Initially planned as a full built-in bookcase, the passage to the bourbon tasting room was easily modified to utilize the unused space beneath the stairwell

Custom Home Atrium

The approach to this home envisioned a simple, brick English house updated with contemporary features to create a unique dialogue that would appeal to clients who appreciate both traditional design and modern aesthetics.

In a conventional English house, spaces are compartmentalized and receive limited natural light. Here, a soaring two-story glass atrium, with a vaulted skylight running the entire length of the foyer and gallery floods the space with natural light and makes a decidedly bold, modern statement.

Floor Plan Highlights

A. A two-story atrium is the heart of the home and acts as the central means of circulation, eliminating hallways

B. The primary suite has seamless access to a private wrap-around terrace through large, pocketing sliding glass doors

C. The primary bathroom opens to a “green roof” that reads as a manicured English-inspired garden

D. Three secondary en-suite bedrooms open onto the gallery

E. An elevator enables aging in place or or multigenerational living

F. The laundry is located upstairs for greater convenience
