As kitchen design trends evolve, the kitchen has become less of a workspace and more of an integrated centerpiece of the home. This trend is likely to continue into 2026 as well, with the National Kitchen & Bath Association’s 2026 Kitchen Trends Report showing 76% of housing industry experts expect kitchen footage to increase over the next three years, further influencing the design of the entire home.

The integration between the kitchen and whole home is a really exciting opportunity for the kitchen and bath industry. The 2026 Trends Report further confirms this evolution, as homeowners desire connection and cohesive design between spaces for entertainment, functionality and wellness.

Timeless neutrals are likely to remain popular, but statement colors will continue to be trendy

Homeowners and homebuyers alike will be looking for neutral, calming designs that are more likely to stand the test of time. Of those surveyed, 96% of housing pros identified neutral colors as the most popular. Still, bolder "statement" colors are likely to be incorporated in backsplashes, islands, and wallpaper.

Neutral materials are also expected to be more in-demand. According to 59% of the survey respondents, unpainted, wooden cabinets are growing in popularity, and 51% of those surveyed say white oak is emerging as the most in-demand wood type.

Smart technology continues to gain traction

Smart appliances also will be increasingly sought-after in 2026 and beyond. Specifically, homeowners are gravitating toward WiFi-enabled, mobile-app controlled appliances and lighting. A growing interest in healthier living and at-home wellness has created higher demand for smart appliance features, such as steam cooking, powerful vent hoods, smart refrigerators, and more.

As trends evolve, it's also important to look at what designs are being left behind
