Houston Gets its First 3D-Printed Community
A first-of-its-kind 3D-printed home community will soon be making its way to Houston. Known as Zuri Gardens, the community is a collaboration among Houston-based automated 3D-printed construction company HiveASMBLD, Houston-based builder Cole Klein Builders, and the City of Houston.
The project has already broken ground and construction of the first 3D-printed home is expected in October.
A community that embraces energy efficiency and affordability
When complete, the 13-acre community will consist of 80 energy-efficient homes that blend panelized construction and 3D printing technology.
Each home will average around 1,360 square feet with two models available, the Zahari and the Azizi. Each model will offer two-bedroom and two-and-a-half bathroom configurations. They will also include office/flex space and a covered patio.
Working with the City of Houston, the homes will serve households earning up to 120% of the area median income through the city's Affordable Home Development Program. Those purchasing the homes will also qualify for up to $125,000 in down payment assistance from the City of Houston.
While still not as common as traditional construction methods, the use of 3D-printing technology in home building is growing
