Facebook recently announced that it is significantly expanding the real estate listings section on its Marketplace in an attempt to take on other e-commerce platforms.
Since the beginning of this year, search volume on Facebook's Marketplace tab has grown 300 percent globally, and has a monthly active user count of 2.07 billion. Currently, homeowners can list their homes for sale on Marketplace, though the feature is “rolling out gradually” and is only available via the mobile app in the U.S., per HousingWire.
“Marketplace is a popular place for people to look for a home to rent. Now that we’re adding listings from Apartment List and Zumper, people can search even more options in the U.S. to find a place to call home,” Bowen Pan, product manager at Facebook, said in a statement.
