As FHA Shrinks, Lending Expands in Rural Areas

While not well known, the Rural Housing Service (RHS) and the Farm Service Agency (FSA) have expanded mortgage lending while FHA continues to shrink. The RHS program expanded dramatically in the wake of the financial crisis and is now a dominant player supporting first-time, low-income, and minority borrowers with safer financing in rural areas.
