The contractor wanted to maximize the stunning panoramic views available from this home, but also wanted to create a continuous feeling between indoor and outdoor living spaces. Located on the shore of Lake Michigan in Union Pier, Michigan, this impressive home is now a stunning image of luxury and livability thanks to Viewrail’s latest innovations in floating stairs, cable railing, and glass railing.

Four-inch thick Red Oak treads on the beautiful floating staircase match perfectly with the surrounding walls and ceiling. Sleek cable railing lines run horizontally across stairway openings and follow the stairway up the height of each story, tying together three levels of the home with a simple, modern touch. A single steel stringer in black runs the length of each stairway, providing the necessary backbone for strength as well as an impressive architectural detail.

The rooftop patio offers a birds-eye view of the charming lake and beach. We knew the roof’s railing had to be able to withstand lake effect winds, provide exceptional security, and maintain excellent views all around. Glass railing checked all of these boxes. Glass railing is an excellent windbreaker, but still allows small breezes to pass through so guests can enjoy the gentle cooling effect coming off Lake Michigan.

We installed premier cable railing with a matching Red Oak handrail on the outdoor deck to provide safety without sacrificing entertainment space. This railing preserves the expansive view, while also adding security and safety for guests navigating up and down the stairs.

Together, the Viewrail floating stairs, cable railing, and glass railing add beauty and functionality to this prestigious home.
