Do you know someone who deserves to be recognized as a member of Pro Builder's Young Guns & Legends class of 2025? Perhaps an employee, colleague, client, your employer (or even yourself) who has exhibited outstanding leadership, driven innovation, and/or dedicated a career to improving the housing industry? 

Below are Frequently Asked Questions about the program, including nomination eligibility, required support materials, and the deadline for submitting a nomination. If you have a question that isn't covered below, email us at [email protected].


Who can be nominated as a Young Gun or Legend?

The Young Guns & Legends (formerly Forty Under 40) recognition program is open to all housing industry professionals regardless of age. Nominees may come from any new-home industry-related field, including home builders, trade specialists, service providers, product manufacturers, and start-up disrupters.

Nominations, including personal statements and supporting materials, must be received by August 15, 2025.

Note: Individuals who were previously nominated for a previous Pro Builder’s Forty Under 40 competition but not selected are eligible. Individuals previously nominated and who were selected as one of Pro Builder’s Forty Under 40 are not eligible. See additional nomination details below.

Can I nominate myself?

Yes. Don’t be bashful! If you believe you qualify as an outstanding leader, innovator, disrupter, or have dedicated your careers to making the home building industry better, feel free to nominate yourself!

Can I nominate more than one person?

Yes. If you feel there are several individuals who deserve consideration, please submit their nominations separately. There is no limit to the number of submissions you can make, but please note that you’ll need to include supporting materials for each nominated individual.

Is there a fee for making a nomination?

No. There is no fee associated with the Young Guns & Legends recognition program.

How do I know if my nomination was acepted?

After submitting your nomionation via the online nomination form, you will receive a confirmation email.

Will I be notified if the person I nominate is selected?

Our first priority is to contact the 40 individuals we select for Young Guns & Legends recognition, but we also will try to inform those who submitted a nomination on their behalf. 

What are the criteria and process for selecting a Young Gun or Legend?

A panel of judges, including past Forty Under 40ers and the editorial director of Pro Builder, will seek out 40 of the the most successful and well-rounded nominees. Some of the qualities and characteristics the judges will consider (in no particular order):

  • Leadership skills
  • Productivity
  • Innovation
  • Contributions to the housing industy
  • Professional growth and achievement
  • Creative problem-solving
  • Personal integrity
  • Dedication
  • A passion for excellence

Additional Entry Details:

  • There is no fee to enter
  • There is no age limit
  • You can nominate yourself
  • Nominees must be working in or serving the new-home sector of the housing industry
  • Nominees who were not selected in previous years are eligible to re-enter
  • You can nominate as many candidates as you like, but only one candidate at a time
  • Limit one nomination per person; multiple nominations for an individual (“stuffing the ballot box”) will result in the disqualification of that candidate at the discretion of the judges

What materials do I need to send in support of a nomination?

In addition to a personal statement about he nominee, up to four (4) documents (see list below) can be attached to the online nomination form.

These materials essential and make it easier for judges to understand why a nominee is a standout in the home building industry.

The brief personal statement should touch on as many of the topics above as possible, as well as these:

  • Leadership skills
  • Career progress and contributions
  • Professional affiliations
  • Community outreach/volunteer work
  • Off-the-clock hobbies and other interesting information that paint a picture of the whole person

Additional supporting materials can/should include:

  • Nominee's résumé or CV
  • Descriptions of the nominee's work or projects
  • Links to news/media clippings about the nominee embedded in a Word doc or PDF
  • Testimonials from clients or others familiar with the nominee's work
  • Awards received

When will the Young Guns and Legends feature article be published?

Pro Builder’s November/December 2025 issue will feature profiles of the Young Guns & Legends class of 2024, with extended coverage on probuilder.com.
