Wednesday marks the first official day of the summer season, and for homeowners looking to soak up the sunshine while keeping their houses cool, that may mean it’s time to redesign. When creating an outdoor living space suited for hot summer weather, adding a grilling area increases livability beyond interior space, while larger additions such as swimming pools can drastically boost a home’s resale value, according to Housing Design Matters.

Pools provide relief from the heat, but they have many other qualities. The sound of moving water is very soothing and can drown out unwanted noises of a nearby road or highway. Moving water when illuminated at night takes on a magical quality, enhancing any outdoor space at night!
